People with dollar in the retirement plan should really look out if Thailand is the best place to stay. The THB has overnight reach an all time high and many suspect that it has something to do with the return of the former PM.
The new government does not want to restrict the THB to go even higher and we will risk have very difficult to export anything from Thailand. Some say that this is just because the dollar is weak and there is no need to worry since all currency is weak.
Since most of my Internet Money come in the form of dollar I am very bored with this situation.
The weak dollar doesn’t help when considering the U.S., but the baht is currently strong against all currencies, not just the U.S. dollar.
In any case, the baht has been this strong previous to the 1997 currency crisis and one might think that the current “strength” of the baht is simply a return to fair value for the currency. Prior to the 1997 currency crises the baht never went above 30baht/$US1 and averaged right around 25baht/dollar. This means we may have a way to go yet before the currency stabilizes again.
Remember in all markets the only certainty is imbalance and uncertainty.
