A danish girl is the last known person that been cheated in Bangkok airport. She was accused of stealing a lipstick because she pass a invisible shop line. The police arrested here and some fixer or translator demanded 11000 USD for her not go to Bangkok Hilton.
If she stole the item is not the issue here but the punishment they want to put on the foreigners. A normal Thai thief would maybe get fine from the Police and do not do it gain. He would be out on bail on the spot, something they do not offer foreigners in these cases. But normally they can talk with the police and get out on bail for maybe less then 20 000 THB in these cases.
The Danish embassy has now warned people from shopping in the Airport and the EU countries will talk about to make a general warning not to buy anything from the tax free in the airport to avoid problem.
Never pay anything to anyone before you talked to your Embassy and always carry a copy of the phone numbers to the Embassy in pocket or as a short number in your mobile phone. Do not care what they say that you can call you have the right to call your embassy. Do not follow any unknown people that are not Thai Police officers and make sure to write all names of the Police in charge.
