When something goes wrong in Pattaya, the first few minutes can be confusing—especially if you are visiting Thailand, do not speak Thai fluently or are unsure which service handles your situation. Keeping a few verified national emergency numbers in your phone is more useful than relying on a local number mentioned in an old travel blog.
A failed call on one day does not establish that an emergency service has stopped operating. Phone coverage, roaming, your device and the exact situation may all affect whether a call connects.
The key numbers to save
The Thai government’s tourist-assistance contact list, published in November 2025, provides these nationwide starting points:
- 191 — urgent police or general emergency incidents.
- 1669 — emergency medical assistance and ambulance coordination.
- 1155 — Tourist Police assistance, including support for visitors.
- 1672 — Tourism Authority of Thailand information, which is not a replacement for an emergency response service.
A separate Thai government emergency-hotline list also lists 199 for fire emergencies. These are useful numbers to know before an incident, but they are not a guarantee that every call will connect immediately in every circumstance.
Which number should you use?
For a serious injury, sudden loss of consciousness, major road accident or another situation that requires urgent medical response, 1669 is the national emergency-medical contact. Give clear location information and follow the operator’s directions. Do not move an injured person unnecessarily unless the current environment is immediately dangerous.
For an urgent crime in progress or another police emergency, call 191. Explain what is happening, where it is happening, and whether anyone is injured or in immediate danger. If you can do so safely, move away from the threat before making the call.
The Tourist Police’s official contact page lists 1155. This can be especially useful for a visitor seeking police-related support or language assistance, but it should not delay a call for a time-critical ambulance or urgent local police response.
For a fire, use the relevant fire-emergency number 199 as published by the government, while ensuring everyone moves to safety. Do not re-enter a burning or smoke-filled building to retrieve possessions.
Give a location that responders can find
“Near my hotel in Pattaya” may not be enough. Open a map on your phone if safe, read the name of the building or nearby business, and give an address, road or soi number where available. Pattaya, Jomtien and surrounding districts contain many similarly named accommodation blocks. If you are in a condominium, tell responders the tower, entrance and floor.
If language is difficult, show a nearby staff member or trusted Thai-speaking person the emergency number and location details. Do not rely solely on a translation app while a dangerous situation is developing. Keep your phone charged and consider saving a short note with your accommodation name in Thai.
For a road accident, stay out of traffic and make yourself visible before attempting to assist. If people are hurt, prioritise emergency medical services. Photos, insurance details and arguments about responsibility come later.
What if the number fails to connect?
First, check whether your phone has a signal and whether you are using the correct calling method. On a roaming SIM, short emergency codes sometimes behave differently from ordinary international numbers. Where possible, try another working phone or ask local staff to place the call on a Thai mobile network.
If an emergency number fails, do not keep redialling the same unavailable line indefinitely while someone is in danger. Seek help from nearby police, emergency responders, hotel security, hospital personnel or other trusted local assistance, depending on the incident. Preserve the time and circumstances of the failed attempt if reporting a service problem later.
Do not rely on a historical local police-radio number copied from a 2009 post. Local landlines and operational arrangements can change. Ask your hotel or condominium for its current local station and emergency contacts while things are calm, not for the first time during a crisis.
Prepare before exploring Pattaya
Save 191, 1669, 1155 and 199 in your contacts. Add your accommodation address, your insurer’s emergency assistance contact and an emergency contact at home. Make sure your travel insurance covers the activities you plan to undertake, including motorbike riding if applicable; insurance cover does not guarantee that a hospital will bill a particular insurer directly.
Tell travel companions where you are going and arrange a meeting point if you become separated. Keep an electronic copy of important documents stored securely and avoid carrying unnecessary valuables. These simple preparations matter more than memorising every possible hotline.
After an incident
Once everyone is safe and urgent help has arrived, write down the incident time, location, people contacted and any report reference you are given. Seek appropriate medical evaluation even if an injury initially seems minor. Contact your insurer and consulate as relevant, and follow the official process for making a police report.
Do not publish private details about victims, responders or witnesses without a compelling reason. Avoid spreading rumours that a service has failed nationwide because of one poor connection.
The most useful Pattaya emergency plan is short: know the right national number, be able to give an exact location, and have a fallback way to reach local help if your phone or network lets you down.
