Loei is one of the notably sparsely populated provinces of Thailand, located in the North-East of Thailand. The reign is qt with dismal mountains, and the optimum Loei is located in a hip basin. The river Loei which flows owing to the province is a tributary of the Mekong river. This river forms the northern boundary of the province with neighboring Laos. The province is subdivided into 14 districts which are Mueang, Wang Saphung, Phu Kradueng, Chiang Khan, Pak Chom, Tha Li, Phu Ruea, Dan Sai, Na Haeo, Na Duang, Phu Luang, Pha Khao, Erawan and Nong Hin. The districts are further subdivided into 89 sub districts and 839 villages.

Although geographically located in the northeast or I-San, Loei has prevalent things in daily with the northern situation with stupendous eager hills and mountains and its wintry as in fact as lightless climate. Literally speaking, the province deserves its name “Loei” which means ‘beyond’ or ‘to the furthest extreme’ as Loei lies in the northernmost part of the Northeastern region. While temperatures in the hot season around April can be more than 40 degrees Celsius, the province is the only place in Thailand which regularly goes below 0 degrees in the nights during the cold season around December. We can say, Loei’s geography and climate is unique when compared to other I-San provinces.
