The Marine and Coastal Resources Department of Thailand have discovered a box jellyfish outside Phi Phi Island in Krabi province. A Swedish girl was killed last year by this rare jellyfish in Ko Lanta Krabi.
People that see normal jellyfish should avoid swimming in it (not very easy since it is every where right now) and if stung go to nearest hospital. In the mean time put vinegar on it not water it will just make it worse.
The box jellyfish is deadly if a person is stung to many times but it is very rare in Thai coastal waters. The government will try to put up warning signs but well you know how that is going to go.
If you want to know how a box jellyfish looks like it looks like this.

Some facts that need clearing up here are that many box jellyfish are being trapped every day on the island of Phuket and around Koh Lanta. Scientists are trying to determine just how venomous this type of box jellyfish is.
The Swedish girl (10yo) was killed this April 2008 on a Koh Lanta beach directly from the poison and not an allergic reaction.
There is a type of box jellyfish that is known to exist around Krabi, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Chang – and suspected of being in all waters – that is known to kill much like the chironex fleckeri type (it lives in Australia, Philippines and other areas including it is thought Thailand though no-one has caught one yet) that is the most venomous animal on the planet.
If stung by a box jellyfish check victim’s vital signs and administer CPR if necessary and flush tentacles with vinegar to stop the stinging – get urgent medical assistance!
A box jellyfish can be a few centimetres or it can have tentacles that are 3m long!
