The Thai immigration bureau is going to “crackdown†(according to Thaivisa.com) on border run that give you 15 days extra visa.
If you do the 15 days visa run 4 times in a row you will not be allowed in Thailand or taken to the airport where you have to fly out.
Thai immigration does not make any money on the 15 days border runs but it is a lot of paper work.
Another reason might be that the control of the people going out on the land borders are not that strict and Thailand want to clean out “wanted†foreigners from Thailand.
A person that is wanted in his home country can not go outside Thailand and ask for a visa since he risk being arrested but as long as he stays between Cambodia and Thailand the risk for being arrested is very small.
In the same time the Thai government is promoting the free tourist visa if you apply for one in your home Embassy before you come to Thailand.
You can off course go to Cambodia and come back as a normal tourist they just want to stop the abusive once.
I guess it is tuff luck if you are working near the border and crossing every day.

Sorry for those near the border, but farangs living on a shoestring have got no right to complain… they are guests in Thailand, and Thailand wants farangs with money, not the backpacker bums of days gone by!
30 day stamps are still good for those arriving at airports, plenty enough for ‘real tourists on a proper holiday, usually…
