Thai Police to crack down on fake brands and this time its for real

Police are cracking down on Pirated goods for the 1000 time. They will also set up a special task force; yes you guessed it, again. But according to Gen. Achirawit, who is also Deputy Commissioner General this one is for real. (Huh?!) After a meeting with representatives for 57 trademarks, he promised to shape up Thailand with in 3 month and make them stop selling pirated goods. He did not say anything about the police stop taking bribes in the same time.
Last year the custom made it possible to hold any package that might contain pirated goods and the police promised a cracked down and after that as absolutely nothing has happened, as usual. We talked to one of the lawyers the represent many of the brands and trademarks and he said that doing a raid on a street vendors did not render any money or helped anything because they are as a brand owner have to pay so much to the police to even go out and arrest someone. They need to find a factory that has wealthy owner so when they do the arrest there will be money over to actually pay the police. The Police will take 70 % and brand owner will take the rest, if there is no money to the police the brand owner need to pay up 100 000 THB for the raid even if someone got arrested but he did not have money. The first time you get arrested you do not need to go to prison you only need to pay the fine. The second time you need to pay and you will get prison for a few months. But the factory is not stupid they will hire someone to play the “boss” and will pay the fines if the police raid the factory.
