Rabies Chatuchak Weekend Market

The famous and for me shameless market of Chatuchak Weekend Market or JJ market as it is called by foreigners have finally got in the spotlight of the Thai government. A woman selling dogs in the market has died from rabies she got from her dogs and she has been selling dogs forever. The Thai government urged everyone that bought dogs from this woman in the last 3 month to come to the hospital and get their dogs and themselves an injection. The problem is the government does not want to say what woman so if you bought dogs from the Chatuchak Weekend Market go get a rabies vaccine asp.

The Thai government also wants to register each animal vendor at the market and that’s a step in the right direction to also stop the endangered animal trade that’s going on in the market.

I would never buy a dog from the Chatuchak market since they seldom have any documents or even knowledge about the dog’s history. Many times they take dogs from shelters or street dogs and brush them up to sell in the market.

In a similar story people are now warned of people going door to door trying to sell fake vaccine against rabies. Apparently someone has taken the opportunity from the media scare and trying to sell off injections with unknown content. If you want to get a rabies vaccine go get it at a well known hospital not from a street vendor.

Always be careful if you walking your dog and make sure you have a stick or something to fend of local street dogs attacking or approaching your dog. Even a small lick can transmit the rabies from dog to dog and dog to human.
