No more hotel discounts in Thailand

That TAT have told hotels not to offer too much discounts to tourists since this can hurt Thailand as tourist destinations in the long run. TAT new plan for the New Year is to only bring wealthy tourists to Thailand and they you cannot have discounts.

This sounds pretty strange (but then all statement from TAT makes no sense) because Thailand just prolonger the free visa to Thailand.

It would be impossible for the TAT to control all the hotel rates since they all want to fill up their bed now in the high season. If the bad economy continues then the low season really will be low season in Thailand as well. Many of the sea side hotels in Phuket can only cater guests in the high season because the water is not swimmable in the low season so they want to make as much money as possible.

How about TAT created a fair and balance hotel rate for all tourists and not base it in the color of your skin or passport cover. As we told you before on this blog most hotels have different prices for different nationalities and that has to stop.

In small private hotels you can always get a good bargain if you speak with a manager of the hotel and make your point clear. In bigger hotels managed by Thais they will just stone wall you and you better off going to a travel agent around the corner and book the same hotel for a bargain.

The hotel market Thailand is based on the high season and in the low season the hotels are empty and most hotel staffs are laid off.
