Phuket has not solved the problems with the Jet Ski scammers by putting in insurance because they do not clamp down on the Jet Ski operators that do not have insurance. Also they mafia often do not use the insurance but claim the money from the customers as usual. They also want “smaller†amount of money to cover the insurance claim. Something they should off course take on themselves to do.
Pattaya on the other hand has done nothing more then had meeting after meeting with the people involved and they decided that they would have a meeting to decide on another meeting. It is basically the same thing all over because some people in that meeting are getting loads of money to stop the new rules.
But the funny facts is that there is no new rules the rules are the same old once, if you have a business it should be insurance and registered. None of the Jet Ski operators are registered, they do not pay tax, and they are not insured. It is just a basic corruption 101 until someone make a new movie about the trust that hurts Thailand reputation. To stop the Jet Ski scams do not hurt any poor people the Jet Ski scammer are so rich making maybe over 100 000 THB a day just by scamming tourists off course the police gets it share.
My advice as usual never rent a Jet Ski in Thailand and never ever pay for the damage if you stupid enough to rent one anyway.
